About Product

Product Description:

  • Nexavar is used to treat liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma ) .

  • Nexavar is also used to treat advanced kidney cancer ( advanced renal cell carcinoma ) where standard treatment has failed to stop the disease or is considered unsuitable.

  • Nexavar is used to treat thyroid cancer ( differentiated thyroid carcinoma) .

  • Nexavar is a so-called multikinase inhibitor.

  • It works by slowing the growth rate of cancer cells and by cutting off the blood supply that allows the cancer cells to grow.

How To Use:

  • Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you.

  • Contact a doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.

The recommended dose of Nexavar for adults is:

  • 2 tablets of 200 mg twice a day .

  • This corresponds to a daily dose of 800 mg or four tablets daily.

  • Swallow Nexavar tablets with a glass of water , either without a meal, or with a meal that contains little or moderate amounts of fat.

  • Do not take the tablets with a high-fat meal, as this may make Nexavar less effective.

  • If you are going to eat a high-fat meal, you must take the tablets at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after the meal.

  • It is important to take this medicine at about the same time each day so that there is an even amount in the bloodstream.

  • You will usually continue to take this medicine as long as you benefit from the treatment and are not bothered by unacceptable side effects.

If you take too much Nexavar:

  • Consult a doctor immediately if you (or someone else) have taken more than the prescribed dose. If you take too much Nexavar, you are likely to get more or serious side effects, especially diarrhea and skin reactions.

  • Your doctor may ask you to stop taking this medicine.

If you have forgotten to take Nexavar:

  • If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember.

  • If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue as normal.

  • You should not take a double dose to replace a missed dose.

Warnings And Precautions:

Do not use Nexavar:

  • if you are allergic to sorafenib or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Nexavar:

Use caution when using Nexavar :

  • If you have skin problems. Nexavar can cause skin rashes and skin reactions, especially on the hands and feet. This can usually be treated by your doctor. If not, the doctor can make a break in the treatment or stop the entire treatment.

  • If you have high blood pressure . Nexavar can increase blood pressure.

  • Your doctor will usually check your blood pressure and may give you a medicine to treat high blood pressure .

  • If you have or have had an aneurysm (enlargement and weakening of the blood vessel wall) or a tear in the blood vessel wall .

  • If you have diabetes. To minimize the risk of low blood sugar , blood sugar levels in patients with diabetes should be checked regularly to assess whether there is a need to adjust the dose of medicines for the treatment of diabetes.

  • If you have problems with bleeding or if you take warfarin or phenprocoumon.

  • Treatment with Nexavar may increase the risk of bleeding.

  • If you take warfarin or phenprocoumon, medicines that thin the blood and prevent blood from clotting, you will have a greater risk of bleeding.

  • If you get chest pain or heart problems. Your doctor will decide whether to pause treatment or stop treatment.

  • If you have a heart disease , e.g. Abnormal electrical signals called "prolonged QT interval".

  • If you are going to undergo an operation, or have recently had an operation. Nexavar can affect the way wounds heal. You usually have to stop treatment with Nexavar if you are going to have an operation. Your doctor will decide when you can restart Nexavar.

  • If you take irinotecan, or are given docetaxel, which is also an anti- cancer medicine . Nexavar can increase the effects, and especially the side effects, of these medications.

  • If you take neomycin or other antibiotics , the effect of Nexavar can be reduced.

  • If you have severe liver damage. You may experience more serious side effects while taking this medication.

  • If you have poor kidney function. Your doctor will check your fluid and salt balance.

Fertility:

  • Nexavar can reduce fertility in both men and women. If you are concerned, talk to a doctor.

  • Holes in the intestinal wall ( gastrointestinal perforation ) may occur during treatment.

  • In such cases, the doctor will stop the treatment.

  • If you have thyroid cancer.

  • The doctor will then monitor the amount of calcium and thyroid hormone (hormones from the thyroid gland) in the blood.

Contact your doctor immediately if you experience the following symptoms as these may be signs of a life-threatening condition:

  • nausea , shortness of breath, irregular heartbeat, muscle cramps , seizures , cloudy urine and tiredness. These can be caused by a number of metabolism-related complications that can occur during cancer treatment and are due to breakdown products of dying cancer cells ( tumor lysis syndrome ( TLS )).

  • This can lead to changes in kidney function and acute kidney failure (see also section 4: Possible side effects).

If any of this applies to you, you must consult your doctor:

  • You may need treatment for it, or your doctor may choose to change the dosage of Nexavar or stop treatment.

Children and youth:

  • Nexavar has not yet been studied in children and adolescents.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding:

  • Avoid becoming pregnant during treatment with Nexavar.

  • If you can become pregnant, you must use a safe method of contraception while the treatment is in progress.

  • If you should become pregnant during treatment with Nexavar, you must consult your doctor, and the doctor will decide whether the treatment should continue.

  • You should not breastfeed your child during treatment with Nexavar , because this medicine can affect growth and development in children.
