Product Description:
- Telmisartan works by blocking the action of angiotensin II, a substance in the body that causes blood vessels to tighten and narrow.
- By inhibiting this action, Telmisartan helps relax blood vessels, allowing blood to flow more easily, thereby lowering blood pressure.
- Maintaining lower blood pressure reduces the risk of strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems.
How to Use:
Dosage:
- Hypertension: The usual starting dose is 40 mg once daily. Depending on the individual's response, the dose may be adjusted to a maximum of 80 mg once daily.
- Cardiovascular Risk Reduction: The recommended dose is 80 mg once daily. It's important to monitor blood pressure regularly and adjust other medications as needed.
Administration:
- Take Nizortan orally once daily, with or without food.
- Swallow the tablet whole with water.
- Try to take it at the same time each day to maintain consistent blood levels.
Missed Dose:
- If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember.
- If it's almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule.
- Do not double the dose to catch up.
Warnings and Precautions:
- Fetal Toxicity: Telmisartan can cause harm to an unborn baby when administered to a pregnant woman. Discontinue use as soon as pregnancy is detected.
- Hypotension: In patients with an activated renin-angiotensin system (e.g., volume or salt-depleted patients), symptomatic hypotension may occur after initiation. Correct any volume or salt depletion before starting Nizortan.
- Hyperkalemia: Monitor serum potassium levels periodically, as Telmisartan may increase potassium levels, leading to hyperkalemia.
- Renal Function: Monitor renal function periodically, especially in patients with renal impairment. Telmisartan may cause changes in renal function, including acute renal failure.
Drug Interactions:
- Inform your doctor about all medications and supplements you are taking, especially other antihypertensive agents, potassium supplements, or NSAIDs, as interactions may occur.
- Liver Impairment: Use with caution in patients with biliary obstructive disorders or hepatic insufficiency.
